Curious.......
by cameo indon't know if this has been asked before (and sorry if it has).
this is for all the "born-into" former witnesses:.
if you hadn't been born into the religion, do you think you would have become a witness sometime in your life?

Amish in the City/The Village/JW's
by mamochan13 ini watched amish in the city tonight and saw the village last night.
been thinking a lot about comparisons with jws.
i found the rumspringa thing quite interesting ever since i saw devil's playground (watch it if you have a chance, great documentary!).

Gordy,
Rumspringa is when the Amish youth (teenagers) get to go wild and sample the world. Their parents & everyone look the other way in any wrong doing. Sowing their wild oats so to speak. When they are done, they make their final decision to either leave the religion they were raised in or dedicate themselves to it. I'm not sure if they get baptised but there is some sort of ceremony for dedication. They have to be good after that and go with the flow. If they chose to leave they are cut off by the family for leaving the religion. They were given the choice to make after sampling what they would be missing. Like Mamochan said...The witness youth do it, they just have to hide it.

Shooting at the park
by Netty inwell, i know i dont post often, but still am very active reading all your posts for the last several months.
i had an incident happen yesterday that i just want to share, it scares me to death thinking about it.
i took my two year, my six year old, and a nine year old neighbor boy that my son had been playing with, to the park right down the street to play.

Netty (((Hug)))
That was something I would have frozen over also.
Hard as it maybe it may be a good idea to take the kids back to the park and let them play again real soon. You have probably been there many times in the past with no problems so I think it is good for a six year old to see that it was (hopefully) a one time thing. If he is afraid to go let him know you are too, but you will do it together because you don't want one bad thing to ruin yours or his fun in life. A lot of his stress may have come from you (understandably) to a six year old if an adult is scared it must be bad. Show him how to face his fear, concour it and go on with his fun. You both will have a sence of empowerment and braveness.
Shame on those people! Idiots.

No Body At The Funeral?
by Englishman inmini's thread about weddings and funerals had me intrigued.
so did mulans reply about having a private and separate service.
well, i've referred to this before, but it might be of interest to those who haven't been here too long.

It could also be a way to save money..........you know how expensive funerals can be.
No frills, it can't cost that much to "DISPOSE" of a body, so that leaves lots more money for the contribution box if it isn't wasted on the dead.

Sad News...
by Sentinel inmy mom had her valve replacement and triple by-pass surgery today.
the operation lasted five hours, and they had just gotten her to her room at 8:00pm when she went into cardiac arrest.

Maybe where you order the bracelet can send you an extra chain or put you in contact with the maker and you will always have extra links on hand when needed, but jewlers alot of times have them laying around.
